Job description
About the role
A small AI research lab in San Francisco is hiring a Corporate Counsel to work directly with its leadership team. The company builds computer-use models, AI that reads a screen and operates software the way a person at a desk would, and deploys them into enterprise operations.
This isn't a traditional in-house seat. The work spans corporate, commercial, structuring and disputes, and a good share of it is business problems that don't come with a playbook.
What you'll do
- Draft, review and negotiate commercial agreements, corporate documents and investment-related agreements
- Support entity formation, corporate reorganizations, governance and transactions across companies and jurisdictions
- Research unfamiliar legal and business questions and turn them into clear, practical recommendations
- Assess contract disputes, coordinate outside counsel and help shape commercially sensible resolutions
- Partner with leadership on projects that cross legal, finance and operations
- Use AI tools in every workflow to speed up research, drafting and diligence
Compensation
- Base salary of $180,000 to $200,000
- Full-time, in office in San Francisco, CA
Requirements
What you'll bring
- About 2 to 3 years at an Am Law 200 or other well-regarded law firm
- Strong corporate or transactional fundamentals, with exposure to startups or high-growth companies
- A practical, business-first approach: you find ways to get things done, not just flag risks
- Comfort using AI tools, with the judgment to verify what they produce
- High ownership and comfort with shifting priorities and tight deadlines
Nice to have
- 1 to 2 years in-house at a startup
- Experience advising founders or high-growth companies
- Litigation, tax, investment structures or cross-border experience
- Work across multiple entities and jurisdictions
