Job description
About the role
A growing professional services firm in Lakeview is hiring a Senior Staff Accountant to own the month-end close and serve as the backbone of a small, collaborative finance team. Reporting directly to the Controller, you'll have real ownership of the numbers and a genuine voice in how the function scales — this isn't a seat where you're siloed on a single ledger.
What you'll do
- Own the full month-end and quarter-end close, including journal entries, accruals, and balance-sheet reconciliations
- Prepare monthly financial statements (P&L, balance sheet, cash flow) with variance analysis and commentary for leadership
- Maintain fixed-asset, prepaid, and intercompany schedules
- Lead the AP/AR review cycle and safeguard the integrity of the general ledger
- Partner with the Controller on the annual budget and rolling forecasts
- Serve as a key contact for external auditors and support year-end tax preparation
- Help migrate reporting off spreadsheets and into a modern ERP, documenting processes along the way
- Identify and implement improvements that shorten the close and reduce manual work
- Review the work of and mentor a junior accountant
Why this role
- Hybrid schedule — three days in the Lakeview office, two remote
- A clear, openly discussed path to Accounting Manager within two to three years
- A Controller who invests in the team, at a firm that treats finance as a partner rather than a back office
Compensation & benefits
- $78,000–$92,000 base, commensurate with experience, plus an annual performance bonus
- 401(k) with company match and full medical, dental, and vision coverage
- CPA exam and continuing-education support
- Generous PTO — and a culture that respects it
Requirements
Must-haves
- 3+ years of accounting experience, ideally a mix of public and private
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance
- Strong working knowledge of US GAAP and the full close cycle
- Advanced Excel (pivot tables, lookups, working with large datasets)
- Demonstrated ownership of reconciliations and financial statements
Nice to have
- CPA or active CPA candidacy
- Experience with NetSuite, Sage Intacct, or a comparable ERP
- Exposure to a multi-entity environment
- Comfortable working a hybrid schedule (3 days/week on site in Lakeview)
